The Little Codfish Wish
By Elijah Porter (age 14)
There once was a cod; a little, weak cod
Who feared the hot pan and dish
He lived in a cove; an old, barren cove
Little food was there for a fish
He once made a prayer to Christ Lord 'up there'
The following is his wish:
"Please keep me from hook or net or," he shook,
"A boat who'll eat a small fish."
And yet, one cold day as he watched seaweed sway
A net caught the small fish
There was many a cod who feared that Lord God
Would let a fork meet each fish
Then the little, weak cod felt sad and quite odd
That he was a poor doomed fish
"I can't understand that Him with mighty hand
would not listen to my wish."
As the boat moved away and he thought of dish and tray
The cod saw cut netting swish
He swam through the hole; the small, little hole
A perfect fit for that fish
He found himself in a cove; a new, rich cove
Plenty of food for a fish
As he looked all around in the cove that he found
He thought about his earnest wish
Then spoke mighty God to the small, weak cod
"I really did hear your wish
Though you got caught in a net, you were safe, you can bet
and you never got to pan or dish."
So from what we just heard and from our Father's Word
What is learnt about a wish?
If we go through hot fire, we will then end up higher
Just as did the small weak fish.
